Tokyopop seems to have simplified the dialogue a little bit, (perhaps to tone it down?) but there is enough of the original story there to make it enjoyable, especially if you like the artwork.
I thought I'd ask this here because you guys used to scanlate this. And I don't know where else to look. -.-;;
Has anyone got the Tokyopop translation of Petshop of Horrors? If they have, is it any good? With all TP's new title annoucements, I've heard some people say they messed up Petshop of Horrors, and I'd like to know how.

dialogues are not as great as the scanlated ones but i think they're still good. Anyway i'm just happy that i can now read further than chap 2 ^^'' (i read the first 2 chaps over and over)
it's actually quite disappointing ... the empty bubbles, horrendous translations .... but for the sake of Count D. Tokyopop is nowhere close to the scans by S-C.net or Obsession.
anyone know if tranlations are still available anywhere??? thinking of getting the original Japanese version.
Empty bubbles? O_O That's terrible! Other people have been telling me stuff like that too, such as they don't translate all the little text. I think if they're making people pay for it, people have a right to receive manga that is fully translated instead of a half done job. T-T

My god, it's freaky to read this... I'm so glad that over here in Austria/Germany the mangas are all published with a kinda nice and accurate translation, no empty bubbles or left out text (well, at least as far as the Angel Sanctuary mangas are concerned *g* didn't go and compare any of the others ^^;; but since they are all more or less published by the same company...) and they also didn't change the way it's supposed to be read (right-left I mean) and such...
(aaaaaaaah, and they also slowly start to publish shounen-ai and yaoi [img]biggrin.gif[/img] )
it's really hard to belive that the american market is so much worse than the european [img]eek.gif[/img]
aren't there any other american companies that are likely to pick up the whole manga thing and publish it in a more reasonable way?

I've never bought any manga by Tokyopop, but they've been grabbing alot of licenses lately. Maybe instead of concentrating on quantity they should worry about quality. [img]graemlins/sure.gif[/img]

hmm... i had always thought Tokyopop releases were ok, not the best, but ok. However, I just got volume 2 of Demon Diary (Tokyopop version), and there is an entire section (about 35 pages) that is inserted into the book upsidedown and backwards. That is sooo frustrating! Oh, I also just got the first volume of Fake and I wasn't impressed with the translations. I really want to get petshop of horrors, but now i'm kind of afraid to. Oh, and there are other manga publishers in the US. Viz is one (they're about as bad as tokyopop. At least tokyopop leaves some of their releases in the original right to left format. All the Viz releases i've seen have been transposed to read left to right.) and i've seen one manga released by a company i'm not familiar with, but i don't remember the name of the company. Ok, i'm done rambling now [img]smile.gif[/img]
